Hypnotic Brass Ensemble – War
The US has, over the last twenty years, cheapened the word “terrorist” to the point that it is unwise to even use it as shorthand for atrocities. The word is used now, by the US, and therefore its allies and every other piss ant shithole state around the world, to mean ‘those who use political violence effectively to alter power disparities—without legal permission.’ It is a legal stamp that allows a state to break its own rules, to create new crimes and criminals, where none existed before.
The US designation of the Houthis as terrorists isn’t about hurting the Houthis. That’s what defense contractors are for. If the US government really doesn’t like a group abroad it will just murder them, same as any empire does. The designation is about doing practical harm to the anti-Zionist movement as a whole in the West. Now, if you express support for the Houthi attacks on shipping, for example, you are ‘supporting terrorism.’ That is legally actionable.
They are doing abroad what they have always done domestically. If your politics and policy are wrong, you create a crime, socially and legally, to pin on opponents of those politics and policies. Same as the US and Israel have done to the Palestinians since the creation of the state of Israel. Biden and the US have chosen the wrong side (again), are losing (again), and are now cheating the rhetorical game by attempting to legally define righteousness. Classic Galactic Empire move.
