And I have seen ideologues, fine people on many sides, making, rather self-assuredly, an already tiresome juxtaposition between anti-authoritarian rejections of police and arbitrary laws and calls for the prosecution of war criminals. We do not live in a tidy theoretical construct. We live in a messy, often unjust, reality. Sometimes the best solution is not ideal. And there is a qualitative moral difference between bending a few rules to prevent injustice, to stop killing, and ethnic cleansing.
