What does it have to do with me? Excellent question. Aside from being told repeatedly ‘Never Again’ by the very government now funding and supporting a genocide and coming around to that point of view myself, my country is, as previously mentioned, funding and supporting a genocide. My money, such as it is relatively speaking, is being used for that purpose. That makes it my responsibility. Every dead innocent, every dead kid, is partially my fault. The least I can do is bitch about it.
They pulled this exact same shit when Russia invaded Ukraine. ‘Oh the children the poor children well here’s some old weapons good luck Ukraine!’ And I spent two years yelling at Russians on the internet, saying shit like ‘if you don’t stand up and fight it from within this shit is on you, too.’ THAT APPLIES HERE TOO, to me, to you, to all of us. When you’re supporting war crimes, mass murder, genocide, regardless of why it started, YOU ARE NOT THE GOOD GUYS ANYMORE!
‘Never Again’ means never again for anybody, for everybody. And this international order doesn’t care about children or justice or not repeating the monstrous mistakes of the past. It cares about the flow of money and the stasis of global economic and political power. It’s obvious. It’s overwhelming. But it’s wrong, and we should fucking say that it’s wrong, and stop thanking these people for doing even less than the bare minimum of what is required of adequate leadership.
