On this week of religious mumbo jumbo holidays I am reminded of the Christian story about primitive Terran animals poaching from the Tree of Knowledge. We are playing with these 21st century systems like they are toys and calling ourselves clever, with the only deterministic imperative being the reduction of all future contentments to fuel for the pleasure of the few in the now. There is too much freedom and too little agency, too much agency and too little wisdom. Kings who shouldn’t rule and commoners too foolish to see any need for it. Damn it for a contradiction in reason or the judgment of the gods for some original hubris, but the tea it drinks in parting tastes of apples.
